The ingredients
- A lemon seed of the Meyer variety*
- Of the soil
- A flower pot
- Organic fertilizers
- A watering can filled with water
- A piece of mulch cloth
Before starting, be sure to choose the location of your future lemon tree: it needs a lot of light and must therefore be placed in a bright and temperate room.
Clean the Meyer lemon seed
- Be sure to remove the film around the seed.
- Moisten the soil: the soil must be wet without being flooded! You can then pour the soil into the flower pot to which you mix a little fertilizer.
- Plant the seed: the seed is planted a few centimeters from the surface of the pot, about 5 centimeters. Then cover it with soil.
- If the pot in which you just planted the seed is placed outdoors on a balcony or terrace, cut out a piece of mulch cloth and cover the top of the pot to protect the seed. You can also use another material, a breathable plastic for example.
- Water regularly: your seed needs a warm and humid environment to grow!
The seed should germinate and appear within about two weeks. At this time, remove the mulch and place the pot in a bright area!
Meyer lemons
The Meyer lemon tree comes straight from China. It was introduced in the USA at the beginning of the century by Mr Meyer, hence its name. This hybrid variety seems to be a cross of a small orange or tangerine with a lemon. The fruits have a smooth and fine skin, a juicy pulp and less acidic than conventional lemon varieties. The moderate size of the plant makes it ideal for potted cultivation.
